French press

Technique

  • Fresh beans, clean water, all the stuff
  • 60g/liter is about the right coffee/water ratio
  • Grind beans to about medium coarse, dump in the press
  • Boil water and dump in with grounds, sitting at the bottom of press
  • Maybe swirl things around a bit
  • Let it sit for 4 minutes. Plunger not yet involved.
  • After this, take a spoon and stir the crust on the top of the coffee. Some stuff will fall, others won’t. Scoop the bits that remain off and dump them in the trash or sink.
  • Then let things sit for 5-8 more minutes. Lets things settle to the bottom away from the body of the coffee
  • Add plunger, but don’t plunge it all the way. Let it rest at the top of the coffee so you don’t stir up the whole bed of grounds again. Pour into cup, using the plunger as a strainer at the top of the coffee line.
