Stock and Flow

Relating the ideas of stock and flow from Economics to work/content produced by an artist/creator.

• Flows are the feed (like posts on social media), the stream of daily updates
• Stock is content interesting in the long-term, building slowly over time, not ephemeral

Main point of article is that, as a creator, it’s important to have a productive balance between stock and flow for produced material. Keep a open stream of communication with an audience, or a sequence of updates, while continually working on “stock” material i.e. larger, meaningful, long-term material. As the author mentions, this is the “hybrid strategy” that “sacrifice[s] neither” of the development of important stock material and keeping attention with a relatively consistent stream of updates.
